18 JUL 2011 - Season Opening Test n Tune Report

Sunday the 17 July saw the first Test n Tune for the 2011-2012 Season and there was a real buzz about the track as this would be the first time anyone has run on the new profiled surface.

Of course the weather tried to intervene but as usual the Sydney Dragway crew got stuck in and prepared the surface for racing. There was supposed to be a number of other events run on the track before the Test n Tune to help get some rubber down but as has been the case this year the Sydney weather prevented any action on the track so we had to rely on artificially applying the rubber with our tyre dragging machines.

Tristan Triccas and Jason Mansweto have been creeping up on that elusive 6 second Pro Street Unblown mark ...

... and this was the result of that run making history with the first ever 6 second Pro Street Unblown run in the country!!!

Next time you come down to Sydney Dragway do yourself a favour and go into the Pits and check out Joe Somma's new Mustang ... If you think it looks tough here wait till you see it in the flesh!

Kit Hunter is a regular visitor to Sydney Dragway from the ACT and his trick looking VL Calais was into the mid eights on Sunday.

Speaking VL's there would not be an event with at least a few of them from the Maatouk Racing stable ... Here is Bozin Georgievski's 8 second version!

Po Tung had his Supra flying going over a tenth under and over 8 mile per hour over his own AA/OM National records with a 7.520 and 190.89 MPH!!!

Andrew Stavrou found out the there was plenty of grip on the new surface!

Rob Tarabay breaks the usual tradition ... usually everyone sticks a Mazda Rotary in everything ... Rod has a Nissan SR20 in his Mazda and got it into the eights as well!!

Chad Taylor had the Landy out for a bit more track time and made a lot of progress on the set up during the day.

The local undertaker, Steven Greentree was back on track after a top end excursion towards the end of last season... The new paint scheme looked a treat and Steve was just happy to be back on the track.

Matthew Long's blown Mustang is as tidy as they come and yet another tuff eight second Sydney sedan.

Shane Olive was out finishing off his licencing in the Cowin Family Racing Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car. He had the Plymouth launchin hard on every run and finished the day with an early shut off 6.111 at over 216 mph!

Paul Pfeiffer's RX7 was reaching for the sky all day and ran into the low eights at over 160 mph.

Nick Zamagias was launching into the low nines.

Robert Rigoli was well into the eights at over 170 mph! We have reason to belive there is a Big Block Ford under that Chevy's bonnet!!!

Peter Pisalidis is a regular visitor to Sydney drgway driving up form Victoria to race whenever he can ... this time he brought his new ride up and man this thing is a weapon ... Peter 'only' went 7.000 at over 195 mph but I can tell you there is plenty more in it once he gets used to it!

Gavin Searle was out on his 1300 'Busa running well into the tens at nearly 140 mph ... great to see some purpose built Modified Bikes coming to the track.

The Junior's were out in force and here we see Danielle MacCaskell in her B/JD.

Ok... so all good things have to come to an end ... Hey Timmy I know we spent a lot of time rubbing the track but I think the Photograher was aiming at Mick Withers mate ... err Sorry Mick but good help is hard to find ya know!!! BTW... Mick works for our Modified Bike Sponsor Rapid Bikes magazine and it even has regular Drag Racing segments in it.
