2 May 2011 - Chairman Release
It is with great pleasure that I post an interim report on the Nitro Champs event that was conducted under extreme weather conditions this weekend. Firstly I would like to thank the staff and all the crew that worked at the venue to make this event possible. As you all understand, the crew worked tirelessly under immense pressure to present a schedule that worked for the majority of the teams. To all concerned a heartfelt thanks for the effort.
To all the people that took the time to stop me and give me some good pieces of advice I would like to thank all that gave me their time. To all the competitors, thank you very much for your attendance and your patience in very difficult weather conditions. The event was conducted with your support and patience and I would hope that we will see you all back very soon.
With the tough racing, there were a few incidents over the weekend and thankfully our controlling body, ANDRA has the safety requirements in place to protect our racers as well as possible. To the drivers, their families and their teams, we wish you the very best in your recovery. To Rocky Rehayem, you gave us all a scare on Sunday and I am happy to hear you are now home resting, I wish you a very speedy recovery and our thoughts are with you. I will stay posted on your recovery and I look forward to seeing you on the start line as soon as you’re ready.
The days were trying and of course difficult at the best of times with rain, but Sunday was a fantastic day that saw some very good racing that made up for the poor weather prior. From a spectator point, whilst the racers delivered a fantastic show, our crowd numbers were very much down on what was expected. Despite the low crowd numbers our ladies free Sunday saw 800 ladies that we hope will either remain, or be converted, to drag racing fans. I will hope to have our financial position for the weekend within the coming weeks and will be able to report on our position to all concerned.
To Ray Treasure, our track manager, a special thanks goes to him and his crew for facing the challenges and delivering an opportunity for competitors to race and fans to watch, even under atrocious forecasts.
I would like to thank all that attended, spectators, competitors and sponsors and to all the people that made it happen. To the winners of all Brackets my congratulations and best of luck in your upcoming events.
I am looking forward to my next release at which time I will be advising on the progress and general business of the venue so that you may be informed further about your track. Until next time thanking you all for your support
Regards
Sam Sofi
