17 JUL 2012 - Awesome racing in awesome weather for Rd3 NSW Champs

Saturday the 14th July dawned with beautiful clear blue skies ahead of Round 3 of the NSW Championship Series at Sydney Dragway. Around 180 quality race teams filled the pit area and with good fields in all Brackets the racing was going to be way hotter than the cool but sunny conditions we were experiencing. There were many personal bests and record performances over the day showing the track had plenty in it for everyone.

The racing action went smooth all day apart from one small oil down when Gordon Taylor's Mustang broke the Trans on the launch and Matty Welch had a step off his Suzuki in the top end when one side of the Fairing peeled open causing the bike to swerve under him but thankfully he walked away with only a few minor bruises and abrasions.

Clint George took the win in Super Comp bettering both the ET and Speed B/APA National Records along the way!

Andrew and Mick Little tow from Forbes for every event here at Sydney Dragway with Mick (Far Lane) going to the runner up spot in Pro Comp Electronics Super Sedan this time around.

Margaret Hartill-Law not only pilots her tough 8 second 27T Roadster, she also serves on the NSW ANDRA Divisional Council and works as an official here at Sydney Dragway ... So when we found out it was her birthday on the same day as the race we just had to acknowledge it. Anne Fowler did the honours of preseting the "special" cake on the return road. Po Tung stuck the little tyres back on the Supra and prompty ran well over his his own National Record Speed Record and right on the ET mark on his way to runner up in Super Comp.

Graham Blake showed his win in Round Two was no fluke when he went all the way to the winners circle in Timic Hot Rod Supplies Modified Eliminator.

Jamie Prothero stuck his 636 Kawasaki into the nines resetting his own D/MB Track Records to 9.994 at 139.60 mph ... we are not sure but this just may be the first 636cc into the nines! (Steve Thomas Photo)

Nick Tsoltoudis went miles over the BB/SM Speed Record with a massive 190.89 mph charge but didn't manage to back it up for the record this time around.

Brett Gillespie hopped into Edwin Archbold's Mustang and did a few shake down passes netting a .999 in the sixty foot showing they are on the money ... looking forward to seeing this car out again soon!

Just some of the Car Club members that came out for a look at the NSW Champs ... there is a special parking area on the East Mound at these events for car clubs and hot rods.

Brett White had his Top Alcohol Dragster out for some exhibition runs and found the track was pretty tight with this bout of tyre shake ... Brett came back later and went 5.70 at only 219 mph going .921 in the sixty in the process!

Gary Halpin had the 2JZ powered Datto on rails and went all the way to a win over Paul Partridge (Far Lane) in the popular Top Sportsman Bracket.

Craig Berry made it two in a row in Screamin' Eagles with a win over Even Murray in the Final.

If you think going two in row is good how bout young Rocco Romano who made it Three in row in Drive to Survive Street Fighter. Rocco is the reigning NSW Street Fighter Champion and is looking hard to catch again this season!

Steven Dimech went a mile under the CC/SM ET National and Track Records resetting it to 7.276 but unfortunately crossed the centreline in the semi finals handing the win back to Po Tung. (Jeff Hislop Photo)

The next round of the NSW Championship Series is on Saturday August 18, 2012. With a bunch of new cars and bikes nearing completion the action is going to get hotter along with the weather as we move closer to Spring.
