18 JUN 2012 - Over two hundred racers & crew honour NSW Champions
![]() |
| Over two hundred racers, family and crew turned out to Sydney Dragway under beautiful blue skies to honour our 2011-2012 NSW Champions. The day was based around a casual get together with a BBQ lunch before settling down to the all important Trophy Presentations in the Hospitality Marquee. With the Sydney Dragway start line as the back drop and images on the Big Screen it set the scene and created a special atmoshphere for the day. |

PRO COMP MOTORSPORT TOP COMP In only its second season this Bracket has been run in Sydney and it was expected that numbers might be low in its initial stages especially as there is a distinct lack of Blown Competition cars in Sydney at the moment. Even though we only had 9 different competitors enter the PRO COMP MOTORSPORT TOP COMP Bracket over the seasin and once more of the Group One guys get used to the fact that you can run in more than just the Pro Series we are sure this bracket will start to gain momentum and perhaps encourage a few more Blown Comp cars in the Sydney area |
![]() WINNER with 120 points MATHEW LISLE Unfortunately Mathew did some engine damage and could not make the last rounds but still had enough in the bank to take out the top stop. |
![]() RUNNER UP with 110 points CAMERON AMBESI Cameron towed up from Victoria to run his BB/DA Dragster and amassed enough points to take out the runner up spot. |
|
SUPER COMP This year the SUPER COMP bracket was a mixed bag we had good consistent fields in the beginning and again at the end but went a little lean in the middle of the season with 25 racers entering over the season. The racing was excellent with most of the field well under their respective indexes. |
![]() WINNER with 430 points DANIEL SCHULTZ Daniel had a consistent season picking up two wins along the way in his B/AA Altered. |
![]() RUNNER UP with 420 points CLINT GEORGE Love watching this car... always well presented and runs very hard, currently holds both ends of the B/APA Track Records which is actually tougher than the Nationals Records! |
|
SYDNEY DRAGWAY TOP SPORTSMAN 26 racers stepped up the plate and produced some outstanding racing and with more new cars coming out of the woodwork (and shipping containers) I am sure this bracket will be even bigger next season. |
![]() WINNER with 520 points STEVE FOWLER Steve had three Wins this season and has also gone back to back Australian Super Sedan Championships and also won the 2012 Winternationals!!! |
![]() RUNNER UP with 450 points DALLAS WHYTE Dallas managed one win this season and his Runner up at Round One of the series just edged out Adam Attard for second place on a count back.. |
|
SUPERCHARGED OUTLAWS It’s no secret we had some difficultly convincing some of the Supercharged Outlaws competitors that the NSW Championship Series is great to race in … and now that we are all on the same page I believe next season will see the numbers return. 16 racers entered over the season and those racers certainly put on a good show |
![]() WINNER with 540 points NORM McCORMACK Norm picked up three wins and a runner up to secure his first Championship in Supercharged Outlaws … |
![]() RUNNER UP with 370 points JEFF PENTON Jeff came out firing with a win in the opening round but few mechanical issues in the next two rounds allowed the field to catch up but he still managed to hang on for runner up. |
|
TIMIC HOT ROD SUPPLIES MODIFIED In total 26 racers came out to play over the season and consistently good sized fields produced some excellent racing across the board... there were no easy rounds out there and you had to be on you’re A game every run. |
![]() WINNER with 470 points MARK BOOL Mark had a win at the November round and made a move on the field to be tie-ing with Jenny and then went all the way to a runner up finish at the Final race to take out the Championship! |
![]() RUNNER UP with 430 points JENNY PETRIE As we said there was no easy wins out there but Jenny kept on going rounds and was looking good to back up last years win but a shock first round loss in the Final race out paid to that … |
|
PRO COMP ELECTRONICS SUPER SEDAN 81 racers fronted up over the season showing there is plenty of depth in the Sydney Super Sedan ranks … and with bracket numbers increasing as we went along it augers well for next season |
![]() WINNER with 490 points NEIL CONSTANTINOU Neil had a couple of wins and a runner up this season and is always a tough customer in that high stepping Torana |
![]() RUNNER UP with 420 points ELISE TAYLOR Elise kept going rounds and although there was no wins she still amassed enough points in that tough Mustang to hold on to the runner up spot |
|
RAPID BIKES MAGAZINE MODIFIED BIKE 28 riders contested the tough Modified Bike bracket and again you could throw a blanket over the top 10 all season long … and it was great to see some new riders joining the bracket as the season progressed |
![]() WINNER with 450 points ROBERT SIMMONDS Robert started well with a win at the opening round and a runner up to Joe in the third round was enough to hang on to the top spot to take out the Championship this season |
![]() RUNNER UP with 430 points JOE KHOURY Joe had some consistent events throughout the season including a win in the third round and as we said some new riders coming in and some other racers returning put the cat amongst the pigeons to latter rounds. |
|
REDLINE PERFORMANCE SUPER STREET It was very pleasing to see the numbers start to build over the season with 52 racers taking to the track in REDLINE PERFORMANCE SUPER STREET. This was another bracket that was anybodies Championship right up until the bitter end. |
![]() WINNER with 440 points PETER TSOUNIAS As we said earlier this bracket came down to the wire it was neck and neck with Chris… at least this time it did not go down the final like last season but you sure like making it close mate! |
![]() RUNNER UP with 420 points CHRIS HENSBY Chris just kept going rounds at every event however a shock first round loss in the final ended his chances right there but had enough in the bank to hang on to Runner Up … Also for those that don’t know Chris leant his car to Joe Zammit so he could have a crack at the Australian Championship at the Winternationals. |
|
WILCLEAN CLEANING SERVICES SUPER GAS A total of 16 racers ran in the Super Gas class this season and field stayed fairly consistent right throughout the series. Last season it was a little on the lean side but in the latter half of the season the numbers started to climb and it carried that momentum into this season. The racing was close with only 50 points covering the top 5. |
![]() WINNER with 480 points JOE CATANZARITI Joe started the season with two runners up and then a win then the field started to come at him and he just managed to hold on and take out the Championship after being the runner up last year. |
![]() RUNNER UP with 470 points DARRYL STEPHEN Darryl had one win the season and was catching Joe but an uncharacteristic first round loss in the final ended his chances. |
|
J & C MOWERS / SKIPS FIRE SERVICE JUNIOR DRAGSTER Ah Junior Dragsters … what can you say about those kids … we had 40 racers compete this season and it is definitely one hotly contested brackets and we certainly have some characters running in the Bracket here in Sydney… This is great for the future of our sport as we see them start to progress into the senior ranks… |
![]() WINNER with 530 points ADRIANA MacCASKELL Well there is not much this young lady didn’t do this season … and with three from three in the last three rounds no one was going catch her. |
![]() RUNNER UP with 430 points NAOMI LIGHTOWLER Naomi did a great job all season going rounds and it was so close towards the end with a battle between about 9 or 10 racers as to who was going to finish in the runner up spot of the season. |
|
DRIVE TO SURVIVE STREET FIGHTER This is a great bracket that everyone can enter, similar to Screamin’ Eagles you can literally drive your street car to the track and learn the art of Drag Racing on the very same track that the legends of the sport have just gone down… and of course we hope the bug well and truly bites and we get to keep you here! Last season we had 15 racers contest the bracket, this season we had 29 which is awesome to see … and the racing was close all the way through the season. |
![]() WINNER with 500 points ROCCO ROMONO Rocco came out of Juniors and picked up three wins and his win in the final round was the most significant, to win the Championship Don had to go out by the second round and Rocco had to win … and he did all that while running his 7 Second Dragster in Modified at the same event! |
![]() RUNNER UP with 490 points DON ZAMMIT With a win in the first round and then two runners up in the middle of the series Don was always going to be a contender however a second round loss in the Final Round of the series opened the door ever so slightly for Rocco to drive through it… |
|
The SCREAMIN’ EAGLES Bracket attracted a total of 16 competitors over the season and is a great opportunity for off street Harley riders to test the water and see what this Drag Racing thing is all about. The bracket went right down the wire with a number of racers in with a chance to take out the Championship. In the end it came down to the same two blokes that finished one and two last season except this time it went the other way round |
![]() WINNER on 510 points ROBERT AXISA Robert started off slowly but had two big wins in the middle of the series and reset the Screamin Eagle Track Record at the Final round when his runner spot secured the Championship. |
![]() RUNNER UP with 460 points EVAN MURRAY Evan was came out strong with a win in the first round and another win in the second last round put him in with a chance for back to back Championships! |
|
